SONG/LAND/SEA – Tabi Tabi Po ‘ May I Pass’ Performance

A performance series that speaks to the current climate crisis and how high tech industry developments simultaneously affect the North American East and West Coast – Bay Area, Cali., and Seaport in Boston, Mass., both environmentally and culturally.

SONG/LAND/SEA – Tabi Tabi Po ‘ May I Pass’ addresses the rapid advancement of climate change and serves as a warning and alarm. Video work is a visual score for kulintang gongs, voice, and synthesisers with field recording of crows and humming birdsong, storms, and oceans.

This multimedia project combines aspects of artist Lani Asuncion’s new video work and Red Hill Hex performances from their Duty-Free Paradise Series (2020-23). It incorporates samples from José Maceda: Field Recordings In Philippines [1953–1972] – Forest Sound (1967), and layers samples of field recordings from the Bay Area and Seaport in Boston, MA. This work was first showcased at PS21: Performance Spaces for the 21st Century at Rhythm in Nature Residency Program taught and facilitated by composer/percussionist Susie Ibarra.
