American playwright Arthur Miller's The Crucible is a dramatized story of the Salem Witch Trials. In the Puritan town of Salem, Massachusetts, a group of girls gets caught by Revernd Parris while dancing in the forest with a slave named Tituba. Among them are his niece, Abigail, and daughter, Betty. Knowing that they have sinned, the girls claim they were bewitched. The ensuing trials push the village into a hysteria resulting in the arrest of 200 villagers and the deaths of 19.
