The Spike at 150: Myths and Realities

This exclusive exhibition explores the creation of the Transcontinental Railroad and the myths surrounding it.

This exhibition, including photographs, artifacts, and original research, explores the creation of the Transcontinental Railroad and the myths surrounding it.  Is there really a mass grave of Chinese workers in the Brigham City Cemetery? Did competing works blow each other up as they approached Promontory? What was Utah’s role in the work?

BEVERLY MANGHAM

Visual Artist; UDAM Teaching Artist | I have been creating my assemblage-collage style works since 1992. These I develop from a variety of materials: urban cast-offs, kitchen utensils, tin cans, or children’s doll parts; often more unusual, eclectic, or even collectible items such as old boxes, jewelry, old advertising and memorabilia. By combining, juxtaposing and redefining ordinary objects and cultural icons, I hope to initiate a visual conversation with the viewer..
