The Draper Historical Society was organized in October of 1980 with the aim of preserving and promoting Draper's history. Draper was settled in 1849, just two years after the Mormon Pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley. The city has gone through various name changes over the years. Local Native Americans called this end of the valley Sivogah. Other names followed such as South Willow Creek, Draperville (named after the first Presiding Elder in town, William Draper) and finally the name was shortened to Draper.
