Excerpts from “A Brief Sketch Of The Organization Of The Capitol Hill Ward” By Bishop George S. Ashton, 1925-1930 “The Capitol Hill Ward was organized Easter Sunday, April 19, 1925…. After some months of diligent search we finally purchased the lot on the corner of Columbus and 3rd North, and commenced the erection of the Chapel… July 24, 1928 at 5:30am, with two teams and about 60 women and men we broke ground for the Chapel… Our Chapel was completed through the continued effort of all the saints in the ward and especially the mechanics who worked from four to seven months donating half of their wages for the construction of the building.” This beautiful chapel still stands, and is in full use, as a monument to the men and women who so lovingly worked to complete it.
