Otter Creek

In 2009 Peter and Mary Danzig decided it was time to chase a dream. Rehearsing nightly (after the kids went to bed) they had soon made their first demo CD and Otter Creek was formed. Since then they have quickly become known for their spellbinding mix of original songs and American roots music.Peter Danzig is an award winning songwriter and instrumentalist. In 2011 he won the Susanne Millsaps Performing Songwriter Competition and the Utah State Mandolin Championship. Peter was the 2010 winner of the “Better World Category” for the New Songs Showcase at the Walnut Valley Festival in Kansas. He placed 2nd in the Utah State Fiddle Championship in 201. Peter has a Bachelor of Music degree in music composition. He worked for the Utah Opera Company for three years as a composer for the “Music! Words! Opera” program. Peter’s compositional skills coupled with his proficiency on guitar, mountain dulcimer, banjo, fiddle and viola allows Otter Creek to create a variety of sounds and moods rarely found in a duo.Mary Danzig is the 2011 Utah State Fiddle Champion. The Deseret News has described Mary’s playing as having”electrifying energy..style and panache.” She has a Master of Music degree in violin performance. Her ability to play many genres has given her the opportunity to perform and/or record with many incredible and diverse ensembles including The Utah Chamber Artists, Jen Hajj, Chris Orrock and D. Scott Williams.Recent and upcoming performances include; The Walnut Valley Festival (Winfield, KS), The Tucson Folk Festival, IAMA/Gallivan Folk and Bluegrass Festival, Salt Lake City Art Council Brown Bag Series, and the IAMA Local Artist Concert Series.
