Artist Statement

“The Right Ring For Her” explores the status of contemporary marriage and ritual, the social value bestowed on motherhood, and the experience of being an unmarried and childless female in her 30’s today. What are the pressures she experiences? What are her hopes and desires? What issues are most important to her and also to her partner of over a decade? The rite of union is examined, questioning how one genuinely symbolizes or defines a successful modern relationship. Though elements in marriage arrangements and the culture of union vary greatly among societies, nearly all are fixed by tradition and habit, leaving little room for alternate paths to be perceived as anything but deviant.
