For me, working provides a means to give body to what could not otherwise be shared. I was educated at Rochester Institute of Technology, California College of Arts and the University of Utah, but my strongest education comes from my young son and older sister. Both live with involved disabilities and have the great ability to teach me daily how to move forward, appreciating even the smallest of steps and express matters with directness and clarity. As a result much of my art is influenced by neuronal forms and concepts in relation to portrait and figure. Locally, I have taught at the University of Utah, Westminster College and Weber State University. My area of focus is working with the human figure in a non-traditional manner to explore hidden psyches. I was Curator of Education for the Salt Lake Art Center and worked in the visual arts program of the Utah Arts Council. I have been exhibiting my work for twenty years and accept commissions for special projects. Currently, I run Kindred Spirits, a non-profit organization I founded in 2002 that bridges the gap between families living with disabilities and those unfamiliar with disabilities by using the arts as tools for communication and human development. I am an active advocate for arts and education, accessible healthcare, diversity and scientific research to improve the future for our children.
