Elizabeth Miklavcic is the Founding Artistic Director of Another Language Performing Arts Company. She is a choreographer, actress, filmmaker and performance artist. Beth serves as the co-director of the InterPlay performance series and has organized many showcases such as Experimental Floss, The Artist Exchange, and The Actors Showcase. She has over thirty-five years of professional performance experience and is dedicated to the positive influence of artistic expression. From 1996 to the present, Beth has been focusing on the world wide web and the digital opportunities that are available through this medium. 2005 saw the debut of Music for Bubble Biters the Mockumentary, a film Beth conceived and directed based on Jimmy Miklavcic's original music composition. Bubble Biters was an official selection of Just Another International Film Festival 2005 and played at First Night Salt Lake City 2006. In 2001 Creative Passings, a dance video created by Beth, made its debut at the grand opening of the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since that time this video has been screened at festivals such as the Utah Short Film and Video Festival, Napolidanza Festival in Naples, Italy and is available at the University of Utah Marriot Library Special Collections division. Beth has created and published What?: A Choreographic Evolution DVD-ROM, a three and a half year project that was completed in 2003. This DVD is an educational resource for dance and media instructors. It takes the viewer on a historical journey through a ten-year time period and focuses on the creation and performances of a dance in the Another Language repertoire. In 2003 Another Language began a new form of performance called Interplay. Another Language performances now reach a national and international audience. The success of the pilot project InterPlay: Intransitive Senses, has encouraged continued explorations in this world wide forum as a new venue for works created by Another Language. For Intransitive Senses, Beth created and performed Tea Party. Additional InterPlay works include The Surface of Things for InterPlay: Hallucinations, Dressers for InterPlay: Loose Minds in a Box, Mind Waves for InterPlay: Dancing on the Banks of Packet Creek, conceived, framed and co-directed InterPlay: Nel Tempo di Sogno. All InterPlay works have received International attention. Presentations of Loose Minds in a Box include The International Federation of Theatre Research Conference at the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, SIGGRAPH 2005 at Los Angeles, California, The Humanities and Technology Conference Snowbird, Utah, and Supercomputing Global 2005 Seattle, Washington. Dancing on the Banks of Packet Creek was presented at Supercomputing Global 2006 Tampa, Florida. Presentations on the InterPlay creative process was presented at Neumont University, Salt Lake City, the Digital Resources for the Humanities and Arts Dartington, UK and the Humanities and Technology Conference Terra Haute, Indiana 2007. Beth has received grants and support from The Utah Arts Council, Salt Lake City Arts Council, and The Utah Media Center. She received her MFA in Choreography and Dance History from the University of Utah Modern Dance Department 1989. There she received three national awards, an Orchesis Award for choreography, and graduated Phi Kappa Phi. Beth has been creating dance based interdisciplinary works since 1982. Beth has been awarded the 1995 Utah Arts Festival Mayor's Artists Award, and nominated for the 1992 Zions First National Bank's Up'n Comers Award, a finalist for the 1992 Utah Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship Award, and nominated for the 1992 University of Utah Young Alumni Association's Par Excellence Award. She has choreographed for Ballet West Conservatory, Ogden Contemporary Dance Theatre, Weber State University-Orchesis Dance Theatre, Judge Memorial High, and The Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Kentucky. Her solo dance video Eglantine was screened at The Dance and Technology Conference in Madison, Wisconson, February 1992. Eglantine was picked as an alternate work for the 7th Annual Morningside Dance Festival in New York City, February 1992. Eglantine was created in part by a Community Development Grant from the Salt Lake City Arts Council. Beth's works have also been presented in India, Kentucky, California, Colorado, Washington, Wisconsin, and Utah. Beth participated in the Utah Arts Council Artists In Education Bank for 4 years, and was an associate instructor for the University of Utah Modern Dance Department for 5 years. Beth has taught modern dance master class for various local High School dance clubs. She has been a guest creative movement instructor for Children's Dance Theatre, The Children's Museum of Utah, and The Girl Scouts. She has also taught creative movement classes in various elementary schools throughout Utah. Beth has taught all levels of tap dance classes from children to adults. She received her BFA in modern dance from the University of Utah, there she received an Orchesis Award for performance. Before traveling to Utah she studied at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California with Tandy Beal, Diana Crosby, and Roberta Bristol. She was a soloist with the Cabrillo Dance Ensemble touring to San Francisco State, the University of California-Berkeley, and Stanford University. In 1979 Beth received a Cabrillo Modern Dance Club Scholarship. Beth has been dancing since the age of four and has extensive training in ballet, tap and modern dance. She has also studied Dance Leadership, Spanish, Character, Baroque, Jazz, and Folk dancing styles, as well as Tai Chi.
