Michael Burns is a working professional actor and educator. His credits include theaters in London, South Korea, New York City and throughout the United States. He has worked extensively in the Shakespeare festival circuit and is a original member of Handcart Ensemble theater group in New York City. He holds degrees in theatre from Brigham Young University, Southern Methodist University, and Drama Studio London. He is a Fulbright research grantee researching Asian and children's theater in South Korea. He is a certified teacher of stage combat and has choreographed for many productions. His artist residencies have included schools and theatres in NYC, Hawaii, S.Korea, and Utah. Michael works on helping students appreciate the beauty and joy of performing Shakespeare's poetry. He works with older students on scansion and helps younger students understand the rhythm of Shakespeare. He helps children create process drama pieces which follow the story board of the Shakespeare play the students are studying in the classroom. Michael also conducts stage combat workshops for older students and drama clubs. His theatre residencies and teaching have been described as "an excellent way to learn this material". Past students in a recent residency said, "I like learning about Shakespeare. I love that we set the stage with people. I think Michael is a great teacher." Another student said "I used to get nervous in front of crowds. This sort of helped me show a different side of my personality." Michael works with 1st through 12th grades in all areas of theatre arts and drama. He is available for residencies, teacher training, extended projects, and short-term activities
