I entered the Folk Arts Program of the Utah Arts Council in 2000, studied under the supervision of Dolores Perez and was accepted as an artist by the Utah Arts Council. I studied under Dolores Perez who is my Aunt since 1995. I love working with children and adults to teach the art of Mexican paper flowers. I have been called a spark plug, which enables me to get a group going. I believe that every person has an inner talent and my hope is that I can plant the seed of creativity through my art and touch others so that they may find that place within themselves. I have worked with children in summer programs throughout the years. I always look for that one child with his head down, or alone, and that child becomes my challenge, as well as working with the whole class. My goal as a teacher is to reach out to them so that when I leave they may think better of themselves or feel worthy as a person. I have also worked with groups of teachers, church programs, festivals, Day of the Dead, State Fair, Living Traditions etc. I create a variety of flowers from roses to peonies using Mexican crepe paper and tissue paper of a variety of vibrant colors.
