ABSTRACT Evoking Edward Thordike’s Decay Theory, my paintings are an exploration of transcribed memory. In the “Garden Series” I recreate botanicals without visual reference, breaking apart the subject’s morphology and physiology than compose the piece working solely from recollection. The result is a reconstructed translation of the botanical effected by memory deterioration. FIGURATIVE Exploring the complexity of human emotion, I seek to capture micro expressions and gestures in meditative moments; an introspective state of churning and physical state of suspension. Additionally, the water that surrounds my subjects serve both a literal and figurative purpose acting as the physical embodiment of thought: conductive, agitated or placid, reflective or murky, easily rippled but easily stilled.
