Artist Statement: The human body is crucial to my drawings and paintings because the stories I portray are human centered and emotive. Along with the figure I am inspired by the shapes of smoke, ink in water, fabric in water, liquids, rivers, and other organic shapes. Often times these forms intertwine with the figures expressing the movement of emotion that far exceeds a specific point in time. Image and message are more important than medium, therefore I often experiment with various drawing and painting techniques. In essence, my artwork represents my journey on a path to understand my feelings. I let my mind wander, seeking out resolve, sorting through possibilities until it arrives at a solution. I have found that if I try to force an idea or image it usually is unsuccessful and I have little connection with the finished product. When I am able to find emotional resolve and then translate it into an image I find the result to be a success. My goal isn’t to make viewers feel the same thing I feel. My goal is to cope with my own thoughts and perhaps evoke a personal response from the viewer.
