Utah Film Commission Launches Grant Program to Support Local Talent

SALT LAKE CITY (November 20, 2018) – The Utah Film Commission has launched the Next Level Grant Program to provide funding and footing for local directors and producers. The program is the state agency’s latest effort to support Utah filmmakers and take their projects to the next level.

Utah Film Commission Director, Virginia Pearce, said: “The Next Level Grant Program is a first for us. This is our way of giving a small boost to emerging filmmakers to get them to the next stage in their careers, which could be anything from startup costs to finishing funds for their projects. We strongly believe in developing opportunities for our Utah filmmakers here at home.”

Up to five filmmakers will qualify for the Next Level Program in 2019, with each grantee awarded $2,000 to support a project. In addition to the funding, the winners will receive a one-year membership at the Utah Film Center’s Artist Foundry, which provides workshops, equipment rentals, networking and work spaces. They will also receive special access to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, as well as access to Sundance Institute’s Co//ab Artist Network.

Applicants must be Utah residents, over the age of 18, and must be a director or producer on the project. Projects of all stages, from development to exhibition and distribution, will be considered for funding. For full details, including application criteria, visit https://film.utah.gov/for- locals/.
