Spike150.org and the Utah Department of Heritage & Arts has created a primer or recommended reading list, concerning the history of the first transcontinental railroad which was completed at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory, on May 10, 1869. This is as you well know a national story and a Utah story!

Although created for docents and volunteers, we hope this resource will be useful to you too; that is, anyone who wants to learn more about this great American road.

You need only offer two to four hours of watching and reading to qualify for an Iron Spike (all that is needed to be a Spike150 volunteer). We hope you will do even more, and read on to qualify for Silver or Gold Spike certification. The signed card certificate for each level are included in the attached pdf print-out.

We realize you are not necessarily volunteering but thought this primer would be of use to you, or it is something you will share with others. You can also go on-line and find it at Spike150 Volunteer.

We even have a certification for children (or adults with youthful hearts) who want to read the most fun set of children books about the transcontinental railroad.
