The best of Utah’s design projects for 2019 will be on display at the Rio Gallery beginning Sept. 9.
A total of 47 designs from 27 Utah designers will be included in the exhibition,  both professional and student, with projects ranging from wallpaper to architecture. The exhibition will run through Oct. 18. A public reception and celebration for the designers will be held Sept. 20 from 6-9 p.m.
The juror’s award winner in the professional category is C502 Press, a graphic design firm in Provo. Audrey Hancock (Provo) and the Utah Valley University Art & Design Department in Orem won the jurors student award, both for communications design.
This year’s juror, Gail Anderson, is the creative director of Visual Arts Press at the School of Visual Arts New York, where she has taught for close to 30 years. Anderson is coauthor with Steven Heller of 16 books on design, typography, and popular culture, and is the recipient of the 2018 Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement and the 2008 AIGA Medal. Gail serves on the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee for the United States Postal Service.
“I was struck by the diversity of the professional submissions and the wonderful energy of the student ones,” Anderson said. “I’m pleased to say that there’s some pretty great stuff coming out of Utah.”
