Daddy-Long-Legs Auditions
The Draper Arts Council will hold auditions for a fall production of the award-winning Off-Broadway smash hit Daddy-Long-Legs, Saturday morning 29 July from 10 to noon. This production will be the regional premier of this play, inspired by the epistolary novel of the same name by Jean Webster. You may be familiar with the 1955 movie version starring Leslie Caron and Fred Astaire, but this version is very different. It is a cozy and intimate one woman-one man show with piano, cello and guitar accompaniment.

Auditions and callbacks will be held at the Draper Amphitheater at 944 Vestry Road. Those auditioning should use the on-line registration available here, and should come prepared with 32 bars of music in the style of this show. An accompanist will be provided; no minus tracks, please.

Jerusha Abbott is a soprano who is 18 at curtain up, and ages to 22 by the end of the show. Please, only schedule an audition if you can realistically play this age range. Nor is this a part for belters. In terms of vocal style, think Disney princess (or Julie Andrews), tho this is not a Disney show or even a Disney-like show. There are ample trailers on YouTube, available by searching “Daddy Long Legs Off-Broadway” or “Megan McGinnis.” If you subscribe to BroadwayHD, you can watch the whole play and I strongly advise you to do so.

Jervis Pendleton is perhaps ten years older, but his age is less critical. High baritone or tenor. The same YouTube clips provide a hint to the desired vocal quality.

Daddy Long Legs will be directed by Kristen Hickman and will run September 8-16 at the new black box venue at the Draper Amphitheater.
