Position Details:

The Volunteer Program Manager will be tasked with growing and developing the LLPA Volunteer Program. The Volunteer Program Manager will be responsible for the recruitment, training, and daily supervision of the various volunteer positions at LLPA. The Volunteer Program Manager will be responsible for maintaining relationships with outside organizations and various community groups. They will also conduct volunteer interviews, new volunteer orientation, and volunteer training on a quarterly basis. The Volunteer Program Manager will also ensure that Volunteers are performing their duties to the world class standards of LLPA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Respond to phone and email requests for information on the various volunteer programs at LLPA
-Conduct quarterly new volunteer interviews, new volunteer orientation, and volunteer training.
-Act as a resource for volunteers during volunteer shifts: conduct pre-shift meetings, provide guidance during volunteer rotations, and ensure the volunteers are performing their duties to LLPA standards.
-Conduct regular volunteer evaluations
-Perform regular reviews of the various volunteer programs to ensure LLPA is meeting volunteer expectations
-Maintain accurate records for volunteers and interns
-Survey LLPA departments regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
-Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
-Speak to various community groups (i.e. universities, retirement communities, and community support groups) about the volunteer opportunities at LLPA
-Other duties as assigned

Education:

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience
-Must have at least 2 year(s) of professional experience in the supervision of a large volunteer program (greater than 200 participants)
-Preferred experience in an aquarium or zoo setting

Critical Skills/Competencies:

-Experience using volunteer coordination software such as Volgisitics
-Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office software packages
-Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing
-Experience in training individuals of varying age and ability
-Must possess strong organizational skills

Scope of position:

-Available to work holidays and weekends as needed

Physical Demands of the Job:

This job requires periods of standing and walking as well as extended periods of sitting with data entry.

This job also requires regular lifting of heavy equipment and exposure to adverse environments including cold and wildlife.
