Job Description: Thanksgiving Point Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farm, garden and museum complex that draws upon the natural world to cultivate transformative family learning.

As part of the Thanksgiving Point Horticultural Team, this position is primarily responsible for plant maintenance of the Butterfly Conservatory, along with managing the horticultural maintenance of reception areas and surrounding buildings at the Water Tower Campus.

Water Tower Campus Manager

Ensure landscapes in reception areas, surrounding buildings, and parking lots are safe, clean, and beautiful.
Inspect areas daily for safety hazards, trash, and plant health.  Make assignments to crew members based on needs.

Water Tower Campus Manager

Ensure landscapes in reception areas, surrounding buildings, and parking lots are safe, clean, and beautiful.
Inspect areas daily for safety hazards, trash, and plant health.  Make assignments to crew members based on needs.
Coordinate with the Garden Designer, Irrigation, and Pest Managers to implement landscape designs, schedule watering, and control weeds, insects, diseases and nutritional issues.
Coordinate with event planners to ensure areas are presentable for events.
Develop, maintain, and promote positive and professional relationships with internal staff, volunteers, members, vendors, contractors, media, and the public.
Work with the facilities department to keep water features clean and functioning properly.
Train crew on the proper use of equipment, horticultural techniques, and company procedures.
Work with volunteers to help accomplish horticultural team goals.
Meet weekly with Garden Director to prioritize projects and ensure horticultural goals are being met.
Butterfly Conservatory

Work with Containment Director to ensure plants are providing a healthy environment for butterflies and other invertebrates.
Inspect conservatory daily for safety hazards, trash, and plant health.  Make assignments to take care of these needs.
Ensure plant health through proper pruning, fertilizing, and controlling insect and disease issues.
Help select plants that will provide butterflies with nectar throughout the year.
Horticultural Team

Install holiday light displays across the property.
Help with snow and ice removal.  This will require some early morning and evening work.
Work with Horticultural Team at the Garden Campus to install spring and fall displays, holiday lights, and prepare for events.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
