Stephen Sondheim’s haunting tale “Sweeney Todd” will perform at On Pitch Performing Arts this October!

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” contains Sondheim's signature blend of complex music and distinctive lyrics, combining to create an artistically unique musical with a powerful message. The story brings to light the savage nature of humanity's inclination towards revenge and the reality that seeking it often brings about our destruction rather than our redemption.

The plot follows Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, as he returns to nineteenth century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens
a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of a new ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... and the carnage has only just begun!

Dan Tate will be returning to the OPPA! team as the director for this production. Tate recently directed the highly successful “Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” at OPPA! Joining him on the production team are Brayden Weidman as stage manager, Brandon Stauffer as set
designer, and Amanda Larsen as costume designer

Tate says, “I can’t wait to bring this classic story to our stage. People can’t help but be affected by the poignant story and compelling message.”

Auditions are Thursday, September 19th from 6:00-9:00pm at On Pitch Performing Arts, 587 N Main Street Layton, UT. Callbacks will be by invitation on Saturday, September 21st.
