The Utah Division of Arts & Museums’ Visual Arts Program is pleased to announce a call to Utah artists creating Mixed Media & Works on Paper for the Statewide Annual juried exhibition. Online registration is open from Sept. 20 to October 20, 2019.

Awards will be given to artists exhibiting exceptional work including a $1,000 Best in Show, six Juror's Awards at $600 each, and new this year, one People’s Choice Award.

Artwork should be dropped off at the Rio Gallery in Salt Lake City on October 22 & 23 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those juried into the exhibition will have their work displayed at the Rio Gallery November 16, 2018 through January 11, 2020, with a public reception on Friday, November 15 from 6-9 p.m. during Salt Lake Gallery Stroll.

This year’s jurors are Emily Endo of Joshua Tree, Calif., a visual artist and co-Director of Dust to Dust gallery and the High Desert Observatory, and Jason Franz of Cincinnati, Ohio, the founding executive director and chief curator of Manifest Gallery.

Endo received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has been included in exhibitions across the country at venues such as the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, New Mexico State University Art Gallery, and University of Nevada Sheppard Contemporary. She was awarded a Project Grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council. Endo was an artist-in-residence at Wassaic Artist Residency and the Kutztown University Marlin and Regina Miller Art Gallery. She has lectured at the American Craft Council, Portland Art Museum, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and School for American Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology. Her work has been featured in Interior Design Magazine, Art Ltd. Magazine, Frontrunner Magazine, among others. From 2013-2018 Endo served as Lead Faculty and Fibers Department Chair at the Oregon College of Art and Craft. She is currently the co-director of Dust to Dust gallery and the High Desert Observatory. Endo lives and works in Joshua Tree, CA.

Franz is a Cincinnati, Ohio based artist, educator, curator, and founding director of the nonprofit arts organization Manifest. As an artist and educator Jason Franz is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including an Ohio Arts Council Fellowship, a Xavier University Faculty Development Grant, two Darwin Turner teaching awards from the University of Cincinnati, and three Summerfair Individual Artist Grants. In 2009 he was recognized with a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He is a five-time Independent Publishers Association award recipient for his work on Manifest Press’s Exhibition Annual, International Drawing Annual, and International Photography Annual publications. Jason has published articles on drawing and given lectures, panel talks, and presentations about Manifest, the philosophy and practice of art, and drawing as an art form across the U.S., and continues to exhibit his drawings nationally.

Visual arts competitions have been a project of Utah Arts & Museums since 1899, providing juried exhibitions open to artists across the state of Utah.
