Reports To: COO
The Director of Development proactively manages Fundraising, Donor Relations / Stewardship, and Grant and Foundation submissions. Reporting to the COO, the Director of Development is responsible for all philanthropic initiatives including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors; creating and directing an annual fund program; maintaining clear lines of communication with other department heads to strengthen fund-raising efforts; and developing policy related to bequests and non-cash gifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Create and implement an operational plan for ongoing fundraising and support and direct the current capital campaign plan for a Science Learning Center expansion, including responsibility for volunteer meetings, cultivation events, printed materials, gift announcements and correspondence.
Identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects.
Provide support for Board Members, senior staff and volunteers including preparing proposal packages, providing follow up information to prospects, and assisting with solicitation calls.
Prepare, compile, format, package and submit all components of each grant in accordance with granting agency requirements.
Responsible for all post-award grant administration and reporting.
Identify and develop new markets for fundraising initiatives in order to increase donor participation with Aquarium programs.
Ensure appropriate recognition of donors; may oversee donor newsletters and communication for special events.
Plan strategies and annual goals to increase fundraising effectiveness including capital campaigns, planned giving, annual giving, major gifts, grant acquisitions, special events.
Maintain and update potential and current donor information in Salesforce database.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
Must have at least five (5) years’ experience developing and managing fundraising pipelines and programs, in addition to grant writing.
Ability to develop and manage the plan for a $20 million+ Capital Campaign project.
Ability to work constructively with co-workers, Aquarium members and the general public.
Ability to work alone and with minimal supervision and to communicate effectively.
Excellent organizational, time management, planning, and multi-tasking skills.
Must use discretion and demonstrate ability to work with sensitive and confidential financial information.
Salesforce experience preferred.
Special Working Conditions:
The position will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected and some holidays.
