Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Marketing & Communications is a professional full-time position with exceptional experience developing and leading marketing and event strategies and campaigns. A key, influential member of the Aquarium’s Leadership Team, this position is responsible for generating growth in attendance, memberships, and revenue through planning, development, and implementation of all Aquarium marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, sales, and event activities. The candidate must have experience working collaboratively across departments and exemplify outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Experience advising senior executives is required, along with the ability to effectively manage a team, contractors, vendors, media contacts, and temporary staff.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct all facets of strategic marketing, communications, sales, and events
Maintain and manage the Aquarium’s brand image on an international scale
Positively influence sales by developing comprehensive, results-driven promotional campaigns to increase visitation, memberships, development initiatives, special event attendance, corporate event bookings, overall market perception, and Aquarium awareness
Plan and implement all marketing, media buying, communications, event planning, social media, and public relations activities, assigning work as needed to Marketing Team
Design and launch engaging multimedia content to generate sales leads by reflecting the Aquarium’s mission and core values
Measure results by tracking KPIs and reporting ROI to Executive Team
Act as primary Aquarium spokesperson
Identify key business issues, recognize strategic implications, and propose solutions
Provide a thorough understanding of department budgetary resources and successfully allocate resources to accomplish organizational goals while demonstrating fiscal responsibility
Conduct market research; track and analyze Aquarium and local market data for trends in attendance, memberships, demographics, and visitation at other cultural attractions; utilize findings to improve marketing strategies
Develop strategies for capturing the voice of the customer, including existing and potential Aquarium guests, sharing survey feedback with Leadership Team, addressing issues and finding solutions
Manage and mentor Marketing, Sales, and Events Teams, providing leadership, direction, and development for future career growth
Oversee creation, planning, and implementation of all Aquarium events, including but not limited to Corporate, Private, and Partner events; Member events: VIP events; and Celebration and Signature Events

Required Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing or business related field.
Knowledge of and experience in the hospitality and attraction industry.
Skilled analysis of data and trends in order to create effective data-driven strategy.
Experience supporting revenue objectives and meeting revenue/attendance goals.
Out-of-the-box thinker who understands the power of marketing and public relations, and has a successful track record in driving adoption of technology products and services.
An energetic and creative individual with high ethical standards and a professional image.
Thrives in the fast moving, changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

MBA with an undergraduate degree in marketing, communications or a related field.
In-depth understanding and experience in the hospitality and attractions industry.
5-10 years marketing/public relations experience with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
Experience/understanding of the non-profit sector.
Special Working Conditions:

The position will primarily be in an office environment. Periodic weekend, evening, and holiday work is expected.
