The Utah Department of Heritage and Arts (DHA) is looking for an Exhibit Designer/Curator and Project Manager to curate both a physical and digital exhibition celebrating the 125th anniversary of Utah’s statehood. This is a temporary position running from October 2020 -February 2021.

The position can work up to 40 hours a week as needed. The candidate will:

•develop concepts and create a vision for the exhibition layout•oversee design and inform marketing for the exhibition

•oversee research that will inform the exhibit, identifying objects to be included in the exhibit and negotiate loans, as well as maintaining loan agreements and all pertinent records•develop and write label and contextual exhibition text

•collaborate with DHA collections teams and other lending institutions, while also working in the Omeka platform with the digital exhibit team•ensure that exhibition objects are properly cared for and displayed, install exhibition, and inspect for quality assurance

Qualifications for Exhibit Designer/Curator and Project Manager:

•experience in designing and building museum exhibits from conception to execution•understanding of museum best practices in collections care, especially for objects on exhibition

•ability to organize, present, and communicate messages effectively through design, with an eye for detail and strong design instincts•experience managing budgets and tight project timelines, with superb project management and organizational skills

•ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams and diverse stakeholders across the lifetime of the project

•exceptional research, verbal, and written communication skills
