The Utah Department of Cultural & Community Engagement's Division of Arts and Museums (UA&M) seeks an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team as a Museum Services Manager. This position will provide strategic oversight for the Museum Services program. Position is full-time, requires statewide travel, residency in Utah, and includes the option to telework. 

Principle Duties
As the Museum Services Manager you will typically:

  • Provide outreach, training and consultation to Utah's museums in collections, care, museum administration, exhibits, interpretation and education through in person and online education opportunities.
  • Manage and conduct reporting for two ongoing federally funded grants.
  • Communicate program-related content through the Division's website, newsletter and social media including resources, funding opportunities and research.
  • Assist in maintaining a constituent database, leading state-wide surveys and disseminating relevant information to the field.
  • Identify and facilitate community partnerships (state, local, regional) for future collaborative work.
  • Perform supervisory duties for Museums staff.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for the Division's museum grants.
  • Travel statewide to provide on-the-ground museum field services.
  • Manage program budget, including oversight of two federally funded grants totaling $1 million through 2024.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the mission and function of the Division.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this position will possess:

  • Excellent management skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of museum best practices and experience with museum collections.
  • A familiarity with national museum standards (AAM, AASLH).
  • Experience in museum management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, customer service and communication skills.
  •  Knowledge, experience and skill to develop and coordinate workshops and training for museum staff, board and volunteers.
  • The ability to work in a flexible team environment.
  • The ability to plan, organize and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A working knowledge of and good relationships with Utah's museum community.
  • The ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Preference
Preference may be given to those with a degree in museum studies, arts administration and/or related professional experience.
