Position Summary
The Utah Division of Arts & Museums (UA&M) seeks an experienced & knowledgeable individual to join our team as Folk Arts Coordinator. This individual is responsible for partnering with Utah’s cultural communities to support, preserve, & celebrate traditional music, dance, craft, visual arts, & lifeways throughout the state.

Essential Duties

• Promotes & preserves the traditions of Utah’s folk artists, culture bearers, & community scholars through fieldwork, partnerships, & relationship building
• Provides content advice & technical assistance to individual artists, organizations, & communities developing folk & traditional arts programming
• Advances UA&M’s vision with partners by planning & over-seeing professional development workshops & hands-on folk arts education activities
• Identifies & supports visual & performing artists while promoting best practices in folk arts & folk arts education programming
• Coordinates with UA&M Communications Manager in disseminating information to the field & UA&M network
• Recruits & provides technical assistance to Utah folk & traditional artists participating in grant-making opportunities, conferences, & activities
• Researches, writes & assists with grants & reporting in support of the Folk Arts Program
• Collaborates with the Salt Lake City Arts Council to produce & present folk & traditional arts events & festivals, such as the Living Traditions Festival
• Collaborates with UA&M Registrar to develop the collections plan regarding folk & traditional arts acquisitions for the State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne Art Collection
• Collaborates with colleagues to develop & implement public programs & museum exhibitions, including object selection, display, & interpretation
• Develops interpretive materials for the Chase Home Museum & folk arts in education lesson plans that align with Utah Fine Arts & Social Studies curriculum standards
• Represents the Division at local, state, regional, & national meetings
• Coordinates budget, contracts & payments related to folk & traditional arts programming
• Maintains the Folk Arts Program database, archive, & related digital exhibitions & media
• Actively participates as a member of the Chase Home & Division of Arts & Museums staff teams
• Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

• Three+ years of experience working within the field of Folk & Traditional Arts
• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major course work in Folk Arts or related field
• Excellent interpersonal & facilitation skills
• Works well independently & as a team member
• Excellent communication skills; both oral & written
• Experience creating & implementing professional development activities utilizing folk & traditional artists in a variety of settings
• Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize work, & meet critical deadlines
• Working knowledge of Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite
• Willing & able to travel

Position is full-time, starting between $25-$27 per hour, requires residency in Utah & work at the Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts, with some flexible telework options, statewide travel. Projected start date October 3, 2022.
