Readings by the finalists and winner of the 2016 15 Bytes Book Award for Fiction.
Join the finalists of this year’s 15 Bytes Book Award for Fiction for a reading at Weller Book Works!
Winner Jeri Parker will be joined by runners-up Melanie Rae Thon and Paul Ketzle to read from their works, recognized by 15 Bytes, Utah’s online art magazine published by Artists of Utah.
In Jeri Parker’s winning novel UNMOORED, Rennie returns home to find out what happened to her father. During her search, she learns what we get to keep and what we don’t, what we want to know, and what we can’t let ourselves know, what we love and what we unwittingly betray.
In Melanie Rae Thon’s SILENCE AND SONG, she investigates in two short stories and a prose poem, the “miraculous resilience” of all the living in the aftermath of violent devastation-whether that devastation is personal or suffered worldwide in places like Chernobyl or the American borderlands.
Paul Ketzle’s THE LATE MATTHEW BROWN’S protagonist is a fraud. He has ascended to associate director of the Department of Corrections, but is tasked with organizing the state’s first execution in a decade. Arrives Hero, the daughter Matthew never knew existed and who may be his only chance for personal redemption.
The readings will be followed by signings with the authors. Part of the Utah Humanities Book Festival.
