The Fantasticks is a musical that tells the story of Luisa and Matt – young lovers parted by a wall built by their fathers who secretly hope their staged feud will cause their children to fall in love and marry.
Timpanogos Valley Theatre and the newly-formed Timp Players are launching a high-quality series of black-box style productions to our community in the Heber Valley and we plan to kick it off with a mid-February production of The Fantasticks by Tom Jones & Harvey Schmidt in time for Valentine’s Day. It is a romance, a comedy, and a musical performed on a small platform with minimal set and a cast of eight performers. The original off-broadway production is the world’s longest running musical with over 17,000 performances over the course of about 42 years. The Fantasticks tell the story of Luisa and Matt – next-door-neighbors in the throes of young love parted by a literal and figurative wall between their houses built by their fathers who secretly hope their staged feud will draw their progeny into a marriage. At once comic and touching this musical will draw you back into a simpler time while acknowledging the harsh realities that are a necessary part of this experience we call life. Songs include Try to Remember, Much More, They Were You, Never Say No, Soon It’s Gonna Rain, and I Can See It.
