WORKSHOP AND CALL FOR PEFORMERS
Keith Johnson/Dancers will host a free, two hour workshop on Sat, July 15 at Sugar Space Warehouse.
The workshop will be based on the 8-hour installation art project, Bodies Matter, performed by Keith Johnson/Dancers on World AIDs Day Dec 1, 2016. This workshop will be used to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education on the subject.
Movers will create improvisational scores that will take direction from the architecture of the space, the subject matter and the energy of other bodies in the room. This is something used often by the company to create material for choreography.
These improvisational scores will be presented later that day at Mestizo Coffee House to engage, energize and reflect with the community.
On December 1, World AIDs Day, Keith Johnson and Dancers did an 8 hour long installation performance, to show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from the disease. They invited the community, local artists, and shops to participate in this with them. They opened the installation to anyone at anytime for 8 hours and asked for donations which all went to St Mary’s to help raise awareness about HIV prevention and care. It was an incredible day and filled with love with a great response from the community.
As part of the Salt Lake installation, we will be inviting people, in the weeks preceeding the performance, to submit a photograph, poem, artwork, memory, etc. in rememberance of a loved one, friend, mentor or a person affected by the AIDS epidemic. If desired, these items may be included in the gallery/ performance exhibition.
