A gallery exhibition at the Salt Lake City Public Library celebrating dance movement through unique images.
I have always been intrigued with the idea of recording long periods of time within a still frame. The idea that when my gaze moves over the image it is traveling through time as well as space. Over the years I had photographed many subjects with this in mind. However, everything clicked the first time I photographed dancers in this way. The Spirit of Dance was born!
I made the pictures for this project by combining long shutter speeds and movement. The resulting photos show a dancer occupying several points in time. The light traces their path in the air, and that is recorded in a single frame. The results are striking-sometimes ethereal, light and airy. Other times dark and moody.
This exhibit is presented by the Salt Lake City Public Library, and is also part of the Utah Arts Festival 2018 catalog.
