Light the Fight: Free Community Event for Mental H...

Presented by 1-800 Contacts at Corner Canyon High School

Draper, Utah: Light the Fight and 1-800 Contacts will hold a free community event at Corner Canyon High on January 31 from 7-9pm to provide practical tools and skills to help with mental health issues of loved ones. The event is hosted by Heidi Swapp who lost her teenage son to suicide, and David Kozlowski, a licensed marriage and family therapist, who treated her son, Cory. Together they created a popular podcast, Light the Fight, that discusses mental health issues frankly, honestly, and smartly. 1800 Contacts is sponsoring the event and invites all to attend.

“I wanted to share the information that I wished I had known before we lost Cory,” Swapp says. “Every one of us can learn to be a trusted friend and someone to turn to.” In the 9 months since starting the podcast, Swapp has discussed making ‘real connections’ and the event will be geared toward providing relatable information and strategies for all: how parents to connect with their kids, how spouses to connect to each other, and applications for all relationships. 1-800 Contacts became involved as they continue to focus on improving their associates’ wellbeing. “This is something our executive team is passionate about addressing as people close to us have suffered from mental illnesses,” said John Graham, CEO of 1-800 Contacts. “We also know associates and their friends and family struggle with mental health issues.”

At the event, expect to hear:

• The secret to staying calm

• How to best help when those you care about need your support

• And other actionable tools you can use to help navigate difficult situations within your family

Event will take place on Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 7-9pm at Corner Canyon High School (12943 700 E, Draper). For more information, please visit lightthefight.com
