This is an exhibit featuring items from the City Library’s Special Collections and Periodicals collections, curated to explore the impact of the transcontinental railroad, highlighted by train sets loaned by members of the community and our staff.
The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad forever changed life in Utah. Isolated communities became bustling towns with access to mineral wealth, abundant agricultural resources, developing industries, and fantastic natural wonders. The books, periodicals, and ephemera on display celebrate Utah’s place in this transformation. The model trains, loaned by City Library staff members and local train enthusiasts, remind us of our shared fascination for all things railroad-related. The exhibit will run from Friday, February 15 to Friday, April 26, 2019 in the Special Collections Reading Room of the Main Library, Salt Lake City Public Library.
