30th Anniversary Utah Juneteenth Freedom & Her...

Presented by Project Success Coalition, Inc. and Weber State University at Ogden City Amphitheater

This year marks the 30th Anniversary Utah Juneteenth Freedom & Heritage Festival and the 400th Anniversary of the First African Landing in this Country. The theme for the 2019 commemoration is “Honoring Our Ancestors” and includes a call for all to take time to collect and share their family stories and history.  The festival is filled with local and national performing artist, vendors, community resources and organizations, storytelling/spoken word, a parade, games and activities for all ages, genealogy session, great food and great people.
Event features:

June 3rd: 6pm National Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony will be held in Salt Lake and Ogden

June 8th, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Juneteenth Children’s Festival at the Viridian Event Center, West Jordan. The afternoon will include youth performers, games, information booths and a Reptile Show. Later in the evening, join Excellence in Community’s Concert Series with Joshy Soul at 7pm;

June 14th 6:30pm-8:30 pm-The State of Black Utah Town Hall and crowning of Mr. & Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant winners at Weber State University, Davis Campus, Bldg. D-3. Auditorium. The evening program will include a reception and roundtable discussion honoring the voices of our Youth.

June 15 & 16th, 12 noon – 9:00 p.m.: Utah Juneteenth Main Festival Event- Saturday and Sunday at the Ogden City Amphitheater.
Saturday, June 15 is the main event. The Juneteenth Parade begins at 11:00 a.m. at the historic Marshall White Community Center, 222 28th Street (line up at 10 a.m.) and ending at the Ogden Amphitheater. Families, organizations, youth programs, congregations, businesses, are encouraged to sign up and join in the Parade.
Sunday, June 16th is our Father’s Day Tribute. Sunday’s events will include a Gospel music celebration, featuring national recording gospel artist Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Zenobia Smith and the inaugural, Willie Moore & Billy Mason “Golden Clipper Barber Battle” to honor two icons in the Salt Lake and Ogden Communities. Both men, helped build a sense of community, served as informal mentors, and counselors, while providing personal grooming for countless men and women of all ages and all backgrounds, including many of our Utah Jazz Players, college students, and local residents over the decades. Witness the artistic skill of some of Utah’s student and professional barbers. Cash prizes and Trophies will be awarded.

Cost: Saturday & Sunday Only, $5.00/person, children 15 & under: Free.
