Meet the artists who brought Kimball Art Center’s upcoming immersive exhibition to life at the community opening for Pam Bowman and Jacqui Larsen: Things My Mother Taught Me. Hear both artists speak about their work and the stories behind what inspired this show. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.
Pam Bowman and Jacqui Larsen are poetic archeologists of objects and memory. Mining their past, they pay homage to the important, sometimes challenging lessons learned from their mothers. Everyday objects become the emotionally charged signifiers of lived experience and daily rituals. All of us have lives filled with stories. Bowman and Larsen remind us that these stories—filled with fragmented, imperfect memories that are alternately joyful and painful, light-hearted and serious—are not just part of our past; they continue to shape our present.
