Poetry Series: Don Bogen and Paisley Rekdal

Westminster College presents the Anne Newman Sutton Weeks Poetry Series event schedule. Free readings begin at 7 p.m. in the Kim T. Adamson Alumni House on the Westminster College campus, 1840 South 1300 East, and are followed by book signings and receptions.

Don Bogen is the author of five books of poetry, most recently Immediate Song from Milkweed Editions.”His other two books are a critical study of Theodore Roethke and a translation of selected poems by the contemporary Spanish poet Julio Martínez Mesanza. He has collaborated with composers from the U.S. and abroad. His fellowships include the National Endowment for the Arts, the Camargo Foundation and Fulbright positions in Spain and at the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry in Belfast.

Paisley Rekdal is the author of three books of nonfiction and six books of poems, most recently Nightingale,” which rewrites many of the myths in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Her honors include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Fellowship. She teaches at the University of Utah, where she is also the creator and editor of the community web project, Mapping Salt Lake City. In May 2017, she was named Utah’s Poet Laureate.
