About the workshop:
This two-day “Bingsjö Bootcamp” music workshop will explore techniques for playing the Bingsjo Polska, a dance style from the Bingsjö region of Sweden that is also a favorite of American Scandinavian dancers. We’ll concentrate on playing Bingsjo tunes with proper phrasing and “feel” to energize the dance crowd. Our instructor, Andrea Hoag, studied in depth in Sweden with elder tradition-bearers Pekkos Gustaf and Nils Agenmark, masters of the Bingsjö fiddling dialect
Workshop musicians are also invited to play in an “Allspel” set during Saturday evening’s dance party. We’ll hold an Allspel practice session Saturday afternoon to run through the tunes.
While the workshop is geared to fiddle players, other musicians with an interest in traditional Scandinavian music are also invited. For information, call 801-599-0850.
For dancers, we will hold a beginners' Bingsjö Polska class on Saturday afternoon led by our own Bonnie Baty and Tom Oesleby. Everyone is welcome!
