Short-eared Owl Grid Survey Training

Short-eared Owl Grid Survey Training

Presented by HawkWatch International at HawkWatch International

WAfLS (Western Asio flammeus Landscape Study) was initiated in 2015 by the Idaho Bird Conservation Partnership and Intermountain Bird Observatory in Idaho. HawkWatch International and the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources collaborates with these organizations to survey Short-eared Owl populations in order to establish population estimates that can be used to inform State Wildlife Action Plans.

As the survey expands in geographic scope, HWI will work with our partners in Idaho and other states to prioritize habitats and areas of greatest conservation concern for the species. This project has the potential to begin tracking population trends to better determine the magnitude of population declines, which will determine the urgency of future conservation actions.

This work is of vital importance and we would be honored to have you join us in this timely conservation effort!
