The COVID-19 crisis has put stress on everyone in the community. With our classes relying heavily on creating together in the same space, we need to adapt to bring some connection back into our lives through art. We want the remaining month of our Spring 2020 semester to continue to bring people together during this time where we feel very much apart. We will be emailing each class to coordinate 40 minute Zoom live-stream meetings to help connect our classes. If you are unable to join the live stream, we will be posting recordings of the stream under each locked page below. The password for the page will be sent to you via email, so you will be able to access the materials and demos that you may have missed. If you are having issues receiving these emails, please reach out to us at email@example.com and we will make sure your proper contact info is added to the class email list.
A caricature is a portrait where the proportions are changed to highlight what makes a person different from everyone else (or the average). This 15 week semester will introduce the concept of exaggerating distinctive features of a person and bring more attention to them through the art of CARICATURE. It will start with “caricature fundamentals” which will anchor in the average and relative proportions of head and face, and include an abstract chart of facial rhythms. We will do drills and exercises to quickly assess features that are different than the average, (like Jay Leno’s chin) and then practice how to exaggerate them while maintaining a likeness. There will be lots of drawing in this class so a sketch book will be required to record ideas and several different versions of interesting faces. Come have FUN while studying hard to interpret and make intentional changes to a person’s likeness!! First class is 1/8/2020.
