Book Signing with Darren Parry: "The Bear River Massacre: A Shoshone History"

Presented by Brigham City Museum of Art and History at Brigham City Museum of Art and History

The Brigham City Museum of Art & History will host a book signing for “The Bear River Massacre: A Shoshone History” written by Darren Parry, Chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation on Saturday, January 25 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Parry’s book chronicles the Bear River Massacre, the generational effect it had on his people, and a message of hope for the future.

A storyteller in his own right, Parry learned the stories of his people at the feet of his grandmother, Mae Timbimboo Parry. She told him of their family’s story and how his great-great-grandfather played dead during the massacre to save his own life during what would be the largest indian massacre west of the Mississippi. “It was my grandmother's dream to write a book,” said Parry. She was our storyteller she kept our sacred records and then after attending boarding school she came home and began writing down all of the stories she heard from her elders. It has always been my goal to honor her legacy. To keep the stories alive. And to share a perspective about a group of people that has never been written.”

Brigham City is a special place for the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. “Having this book signing in Brigham City is special because our Tribal office is located in Brigham and Brigham city was always our home long before the Mormon pioneers got there,” Parry expressed. “It’s an honor to share it with our community.”
