Dr. James R. Swensen and Dr. Braden Lindstrom present THE ART OF GAELL LINDSTROM

Presented by Weller Book Works at Weller Book Works

Please join us as we welcome Dr. James R. Swensen and Dr. Braden Lindstrom for a multi-media presentation and signing of The Art of Gaell Lindstrom: Utah and Beyond in Watercolor and Other Media, Saturday, February 15, at 7 PM.

The Art of Gaell Lindstrom: Utah and Beyond in Watercolor and Other Media is the first major survey of the life and work of Utah artist Gaell Lindstrom (1919-2009). Lindstrom was an artist whose search for inspiration took him from portraying the people and places of his native Utah and the American West to Mexico, Guatemala, Italy, Morocco, and China. Deeply grounded in region and faith, Lindstrom's work testifies to his dedication to craft, which was the foundation for his long and influential career as an art professor. The 130 illustrations, including 100 color plates, showcase Lindstrom's mastery of form and texture, and his ability to capture the stillness of the moment in landscapes and urbanscapes. The texts are by Dr. James Swensen of Brigham Young University, and the artist's son, Dr. Braden Lindstrom of Dixie State University. They examine the arc of Lindstrom's work as a painter and photographer, his relationships with other Utah artists, his artistic influences, teaching philosophy, travels and study abroad (particularly in China and with Chinese artists), and family life and background.

Dr. James R. Swensen is an associate professor of art history and the history of photography at Brigham Young University. He is the author of Picturing Migrants: The Grapes of Wrath and New Deal Documentary Photography and In a Rugged Land: Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, and the Three Mormon Towns Collaboration, 1953-1954. He and his family live and play on the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dr. Braden Lindstrom was born and raised in North Logan, Utah. He earned degrees from Utah State University and the University of Hawai’i. Currently, he teaches literature and writing at Dixie State University in Saint George, Utah.

The presentation, which incorporates many images and passages from the book, will begin at 7 PM. A signing will follow.
