Open Studio: Four Scholarly Arts | 6:00–8:00 pm

Explore the four scholarly arts depicted in our Japanese screen: music, calligraphy, painting, and the strategic game of Go. Try writing calligraphy and painting with traditional artists tools, then play Go with a friend.

Sight & Sound: The Chinese Zither | 6:30pm –8:00 pm

Yun Layton from the Utah Chinese Folk Orchestra will be playing the Guzheng Zither. There will be a practice Zither available to test your hand at this unique stringed instrument.

Film: Miss Hokusai(2015) | 7:00 –8:30 pm

A film about the life and works of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai as seen from the eyes of his daughter. An anime film based on a Japanese historical manga series. Presented in partnership with the Utah Film Center

Match: Igniting Creativity through Art & Literature | 7:00 –8:00pm

Through lively conversation and in-gallery activities this partnership between the Salt Lake City Public Library and the UMFA will get you thinking about our new exhibition Seven Mastersas well as National Poetry Month to create your own haikus.
