Salt City

Salt City

Presented by Utah Arts Alliance at Urban Arts Gallery

At the turn of the century, Paris was recorded and defined by its artists. We know Paris by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec’s paintings of the nightlife, lithographs of the latest beverages and attractions, Impressionist paintings of friends and families in parks and gardens, and Robert and Sonia Delaunay’s abstractions of the people and architecture. Collectively, the art at that time and place created the place itself.

Guest curated by Hank Mattson, “Salt City” attempts to define Salt Lake City through visual imagery, local artists expressing what the city means to them right now. Subject matter includes urban plein air, portraiture, interiors, city life, and local graphic arts, ranging from realist to abstract, all pieces unified by their inherent sense of place.

Featured artists include Andrew Alba, Natalie Allsup-Edwards, Nancy Andruk Olson, Troy Forbush, Hank Mattson, Molly McGinnis, Maddie Morrill, and Dennis Reynolds.

“Salt City” will hang from from December 1st through January 3rd, with a gallery stroll reception on December 4th from 6-9pm. Admission is free and open to the public.
