By: Shaylene Baruffi-Jensen

CEDAR CITY, UT: The Cedar City Arts Council sponsors socials for the community three times a year to promote artists that have won mini-grants from the organization and help the public become familiar with artists that live here in Iron County. The Cedar City Arts Council’s next social will be at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 2, in the lobby of the Heritage Center Theatre, 105 N. 100 East. These events are meant to showcase and celebrate the dynamic art community in Iron County. Our objective is to provide live music, art displays, and exciting details on the use that the recipients have made of their awarded funds.

Our Spring social will focus on the launch of the new artistic season and our 2020 Membership Drive. Many organizations will be bringing a variety of information corresponding to their upcoming performances and events. We will also be introducing a new format for our discount book. We have over $100 worth of discounts available from locally owned businesses in Cedar City, Utah.

Music will be provided by two advanced piano students from Southern Utah University playing Beethoven and Debussy. Artist Joey Favino will present a display of his beautiful paintings inspired by his cartography training. Matt Colvin, the author of the children’s book Zeus, the Chartreuse Moose gets Loose will have this adorable story to show which received a mini-grant for original publishing and is now available on national outlets like Amazon. The book is “an exciting rhyming story of Zeus the Moose getting loose in the Zoo. After an exhausting search through the zoo with no luck, Bruce, the head zookeeper, thinks of one more unlikely place Zeus might be. Will they ever find this special chartreuse-colored moose named Zeus? As you read this rhyming book, you'll find out what Zeus has been up to”.

In addition to these great presenters Cydnee Lee, the talent behind Uniquely You Custom Jewelry, will have a display of her lovely creations. The Cedar City Junior Ballet will also have information on their upcoming production of Midsummer Night's Dream.

Refreshments provided by The Pastry Pub. Come celebrate a few of our local artists at this fun and free event!
