Utah SleepOut -VIRTUAL EVENT

Utah SleepOut -VIRTUAL EVENT

Presented by Youth Futures at Online/Virtual Space

It is estimated that 5,000 youth ages 12-18 find themselves homeless at least one night per year in Utah. Youth Futures was established to give these homeless, unaccompanied and runaway youth (RHY) a safe place to temporarily call “home” and receive ongoing supportive services. In 2019, Youth Futures Ogden sheltered 75 youth for an average of 32 nights each, served over 6,500 nutritious meals and conducted approximately 500 hours of street outreach in Weber County.
Youth Futures overarching goal is to eliminate the need for another youth to sleep on the streets and another precarious situation, even if for only one night. We have four main program areas: shelter home, drop-in services, street outreach and community awareness. Our programs connect each youth, on an individual basis, with resources to build the skills that are needed to support a healthy future. They are guided in a loving, caring, and productive way, to encourage their own personal path for their future. Youth Futures creates a world where homeless youth in our community can access a supportive and affirming place to call home while realigning their lives in a positive direction.
We are excited to announce that our 4th Annual #UTSleepOut2020 (Northern Utah Edition) event will be held from Thursday, March 19 at 7 p.m. to Friday, March 20, 2020 at 6 a.m as a virtual event. Attendees will be asked to raise a minimum of $100 in donations to participate in the event, which will include sleeping outdoors, on cardboard boxes, throughout the night, to replicate the challenging situations that homeless individuals often experience.
“Thursday,” you ask? “Why Thursday? I have to work on Friday.” This event raises awareness about youth homelessness by giving participants an opportunity to be subjected to the adverse weather conditions endured by many homeless youth; not only do youth experience a mostly sleepless night, they also must face going to school or work the next day.
We need your help to raise awareness about youth homelessness! Would you consider changing the lives of vulnerable youth in our community by helping raise funds for Youth Futures to deliver vital programs and services to youth in need? There are several ways to participate: 1) be a corporate sponsor to help underwrite the cost of the event; 2) choosing to sleep out and ask your friends and family to contribute donations to your efforts (register at http://bit.ly/UTSleepOut2020NU); or 3) simply making a cash donation for direct program services.
Please see the attached information detailing sponsorship opportunities. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at community@yfut.org. Thank you for ensuring that youth have a warm and safe space to go when they have no other place to call home!
