The University of Utah Guest Writers Series presents an evening of nonfiction and fiction with authors David Shields and Miranda Mellis.
David Shields is the internationally bestselling author of twenty-two books, including Reality Hunger (named one of the best books of 2010 by more than thirty publications). Nobody Hates Trump More Than Trump: An Intervention was published in 2018; The Trouble With Men: Reflections on Sex, Love, Marriage, Porn, and Power appeared in 2019. A recipient of Guggenheim and NEA fellowships and a senior contributing editor of Conjunctions, Shields has published fiction and nonfiction in the New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, Esquire, Yale Review, Salon, Slate, Tin House, A Public Space, McSweeney’s, Believer, Huffington Post, Los Angeles Review of Books, and Best American Essays. His books have been translated into two dozen languages.
Miranda Mellis is the author of Demystifications (forthcoming, Solid Objects); The Spokes (Solid Objects, 2012); None of This Is Real (Sidebrow Press, 2012); Materialisms (Portable Press at Yo-Yo Labs, 2009); and The Revisionist (Calamari Press, 2007). Her stories and essays have appeared in Harper’s, The Believer, Conjunctions, the New York Times, Fence, McSweeney’s and elsewhere. She has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John Hawkes Prize in Fiction, and has been an Artist in Residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts and Millay Colony. She is an editor at The Encyclopedia Project and teaches at The Evergreen State College. Raised in the city of San Francisco, she now lives in the woods of the Pacific Northwest.
