Webinar - Getting Funky with Fungi : DIY Mushroom Cultivation with Katie Lawson

Presented by Wasatch Community Gardens at Online/Virtual Space

Note:  This workshop will be held online as a webinar.  Registered students will be sent a copy of the handout in advance of class along with instructions for logging in to the webinar.  We extend our gratitude to our expert guest instructor, Katie Lawson, for transitioning her content to an online format so we can still all learn about fungi and mushroom cultivation!

Course Description:  Fungi are all around us playing keystone roles in both natural and cultivated ecosystems. Below our feet, in the trees, and on our dinner plate, fungi are performing a myriad of life sustaining functions. Despite their importance, fungi tend to be misunderstood and overlooked. Join us for a crash course on mycology. We will talk about why fungi are so important, how we can further incorporate them into our daily lives, and what it takes to grow oyster mushrooms in our dry climate.

Instructor:  Katie Lawson

Katie Lawson has been working on organic farms for eight years. Farming took her all over the country, from Oregon to Georgia, Maine, and eventually Utah. While growing vegetables was her first agricultural love, she now focuses on mushroom cultivation, soil fungus health, and teaching mycology workshops. Katie has been avidly studying mycology for over 3 years, and recently formed Fungal Focus, LLC.
