Phillips Gallery has had the pleasure of representing Connie Borup for about 30 years now.
In that time, she has consistently painted scenes derived from the landscape, always in a serene and peaceful manner.  In the last few years, Borup has moved in closer, taking a more intimate look at nature. This body of work centers on water, rocks and trees. She is drawn to designs that generate visual and meditative interest for her. “Reflections and shadows give me a chance to stop and observe complex patterns in nature.”  Focusing on such intricacy serves as a restorative foundation for Borup and unsurprisingly the resulting serenity is transcendent to the viewer.

Connie Jo Erickson has been with us for the same period of time. Many will remember her as a ceramics teacher at Rowland Hall St. Mark’s upper school and the subsequent eleven years she served as an instructor in the ceramics department at Westminster College. For this exhibit she has focused on the figure, simplified and voluminous yet grounded with the addition of stones both real and hand made marking ones journey like a cairn along a path.

Margaret Wilson Morris, has been a quilter for most of her life. She scaled her medium down to a containable size when her husband, John, developed cancer a few years ago. She wanted something to keep her hands occupied as she accompanied him to treatments in Philadelphia. Though John lost his battle, Margaret continues to incorporate his beautiful jewel toned silk ties into each of her exquisite miniature beaded creations.

Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our traditional opening/artist reception during Gallery Stroll this Friday (unless special arrangement has been made). Never-the-less, the gallery is now open Tuesday-Saturday 12-4 for those who would like to see these wonderful exhibits in person, Please rest assured that we have been enhancing our cleaning standards by implementing specific guidelines from the CDC. Surfaces, door knobs and railings continue to be disinfected. We wear masks and ask you to do so as well while maintaining a respectful "social distance".
