Virtual Artwork Discussion
This exhibition entitled, Salty, is part of Craft Lake City’s ongoing free outdoor art exhibition series called, Celebration of the Hand. Craft Lake City works with local artisans to curate unique digital art works hung in steel frames alongside 300 South in downtown, Salt Lake City. The works are available for public viewing for free— 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Craft Lake City invited 8 CLC DIY Fest Alumni to participate in Salty—7 visual artists and one performing artist/musician and composer. We chose these artisans based on their medium being digital art and their ability to represent a robust section of the creative community. These emerging artists have not previously had an opportunity to showcase their digital artwork/music in a formal public art setting. Additionally, all artisans identify as members of underrepresented communities—a recurring theme in the audible work composed by Marina Marqueza.
The public is invited to participate in a free virtual discussion inspired by Celebration of the Hand: Salty on Monday, July 20 at noon. University of Utah Associate Professor of Education, Culture and Society Leticia Alvarez Gutiérrez will join Salt Lake city Public Art Program Manager Kat Nix and singer-songwriter Marina Marqueza to discuss the project, the Salty album and the artwork. Attendees will be invited to share ideas and ask questions.
