Social Justice Speaker's Series in Partnership with Comcast

Social Justice Speaker's Series in Partnership with Comcast

Presented by Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs at Online/Virtual Space

On behalf of the Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs and Comcast, we personally invite you to attend the first event in a three-part Social Justice Speaker’s Series that will address – through partnerships, community dialog, and actions – the structural racism that fuels injustices and frequent acts of violence against the Black community.

Our inclusive and equity-led mission aligns with Comcast’s multi-year plan to advance social injustice and equality. Through this series, Comcast will partner with a variety of Civil Rights leaders, elected officials, community organizations and employees to play an integral role in driving lasting reform. As a trusted member of our community and a driver for change, we hope you will join us for these events to help create a more equitable, just, and inclusive society.

The Social Justice Fall Series will create a venue to listen, inform, inspire and act to eliminate injustice and inequality against any race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability. Each of the events in this series will elevate Utah’s combined community effort to advance social justice and equality. Please see the detailed event information for this first segment below:

September 3, 2020 | 5:30 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. MDT (Virtual Event)

Act Now – Learn How to be an Ally and Anti-Racist with Austin Channing Brown – public speaker, producer, and New York Times bestselling author of I’m Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness + a panel discussion and Q&A with local Utahns:

Igor Limansky, Community Member & Diversity and Inclusion Advocate

Maria Martinez, Director, Office of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs, Salt Lake Community College

Liz Owens, CEO, YWCA Utah

Dr. Tamara Stevenson, Interim VP of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Professor of Communications, Westminster College

Davina Smith, CEO, Haseya Native Initiatives, LLC

Being non-racist is not enough to perpetrate real change – our community needs more people willing to be actively anti-racist. We hope you can attend this Speaker’s Series and create actionable opportunities for the community to continue anti-racist and social justice work after the Black Lives Matter hashtag stops trending. We look forward to doing this critical work in partnership with you and hope you can participate in this meaningful experience.
