COVID-19 Pops-Up in Art

COVID-19 Pops-Up in Art

Presented by Sears Art Museum at Dolores Dore Eccles Fine Arts Center

The DSU Sears Art Museum is proud to unveil a surprise exhibit, which will be shown in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Grand Foyer from June 15th to October 2nd! This small show, COVID-19 Pops-Up in Art, features some amazing pieces that will let you view the recent pandemic through new eyes. We invited Southern Utah artists to reflect and record the effects of the new normal through their art, and then submit it to this topical pop-up show. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the experience as well by wearing face masks and following social distancing guidelines. This is a unique opportunity to see history being made and being recorded via art for historians of the future to look back on.

Also on display in the foyer during this time is a new series from Stewart Seidman, a New York painter turned St. George resident, who was kind enough to let us show his work on short notice. His COVID-19 series is a powerful statement about the situation at hand, including a narrative of his personal journey through the hardships of the past few months. Seidman’s paintings are expressive, emotionally charged, imaginative and full of powerful messages that convey a story to the viewer in a decorative and sometimes amusing manner. The technique is striking and expressive with images, patterns and colors. It truly makes for an immersive viewing experience. These pieces and their accompanying stories can be viewed on our website for the duration of the show, but we suggest that you come see them in person for full effect.
